On May 17, Southwest Jiaotong University, TechnischeUniversiteit Delft (TUD), Central Queensland University (CQU) and Politecnico di Milano (POLIMI) have jointly launched the International Joint Laboratory of Engineering Dynamics of Rail Transit. The Ministry of Education of China will financially support this joint scientific cooperation initiative.

CAS Academician ZhaiWanming presided over the great event. High-end scholars both at home and abroad have attended the launching ceremony, such as Dr. Xu Fei, the President of SWJTU, Dr. Grant Stanley, the Vice President of CQU, and Dr. Li Zili from TUD.

In his remark, Xu highlighted the tremendous efforts made by SWJTU and his international counterparts to build up the research team comprised of world top scientists in the field of engineering dynamics of rail transit. Now, SWJTU has cooperated substantially and efficiently with world prestigious higher institutes, and scored remarkable achievements in promoting scientific research and talent cultivation and shaping R&D platform and innovated working mechanisms.

Both Academician Zhai and Dr. Stefano Bruni are the Directors of the lab. In the event, they vowed to advance the theories and enter the uncharted technological frontiers of engineering dynamics of rail transit in ways to promote the Belt and Road Initiative and the strategy of Going-abroad of China’s High-speed rail. SWJTU will work closely with its global partners to build the lab into an excellent international research center featured by rail transit and pursue original innovations with significant influence worldwide. SWJTU will remain committed to contributing to China’s rail industry and technological innovation in the field of rail transit across the world.

Dr. Grant Stanley urged CQU and SWJTU to reinforce the cooperation by carrying out major scientific research projects, particularly those in cutting-edge field, and cultivating more talents with international horizon.

Dr. Dong Dawei, Party Secretary of the State Laboratory of Traction Power, introduced what has achieved so far in international cooperation and exchanges by TPL. According to Dong, the TPL will future strengthen the cooperation with its venerable counterparts worldwide to deepen cross-border scientific researches in rail transit. SWJTU will be a hub for high-level academic exchanges and cooperation in rail transit, which attracts thousands of foreign brilliant minds.

Both Dr. Colin Cole and Dr. Li Zili have said that they feel so honored to be the partners of SWJTU to jointly develop the newly launched lab. Both of them indicated that they would be dedicated to implementing diversified scientific researches concerning engineering dynamics of rail transit to address the pressing challenges, playing a leading role in pushing forward the development of the disciplines, pursuing high-level academic innovations and training more creative talents.
