The rig targets at understanding and estimating the service performance of wheel-rail materials. Both wheel-rail rolling contact stress and rail bending stress are taken into consideration. Possible applications of this rig are to reproduce and examine high-speed wheel rail damages, to optimize the match of wheel-rail materials and so on.
Functions:
● Investigate the effect of both wheel-rail rolling contact stress and rail bending stress on the service performance of wheel-rail materials.
● Study wheel-rail rolling contact fatigue such as spalling, shelling, headcheck and squats. Different profiles, materials and surface hardness are taken into account.
● Examine the uniform and non-uniform wear occurring on wheel and rail contact surfaces for different profiles, materials and surface hardness.
Main technical parameters:
● Maximum test speed: 380 km/h
● Diameter of rail mounted disk: 3.2 m
● Maximum wheel load: 15 kN
● Maximum wheel traction force: 7.5 kN
● Maximum driving moment applied to wheel: 2.1 kN•m
● Angle of attack: -4°~4°
● Lateral shift of wheel: to be able to simulate the contact between the rail gauge corner and wheel flange fillet and the contact between the field sides of both wheel and rail.
